Sizing of all of the floor registers is by the size of the duct work or hole in the floor or wall. A 4 x 10 register is for a 4 x 10 hole. The overall size of the plate would be close to 6 x 12 due to a 1 inch lip around the register. Always order plates by the size of the hole.
